TOUR BIRDWATCHING SOUTH OF PERÚ (6 DÍAS, 5 NOCHES)
DAY 1: PANTANOS DE VILLA WILDLIFE REFUGE
Pantanos de Villa is a marshland and protected wildlife refuge. Home to over 200 species of birds, this site is located in the Chorrillos district of southern Lima.
The tour that we offer starts at 8:00 in the morning. We will spend 4 hours watching several different kinds of birds, such as: Yellow - Hooded Blackbird, Peruvian Meadowlark, Peruvian Thick – Knee, Yellow – Crowned Night – Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, Cocoi Heron, Plumbeous Rail, Surf Cinclodes, Short – Tailed Field – Tyrant, Costal Miner, Grassland Yellow – Finch, and many more.
After finishing the tour, we are will go to Santa Eulalia, a nearby city, to stay the night.
DAY 2: SANTA EULALIA VALLEY
The tour starts at 5: 00 am
The Santa Eulalia route to Lima is relatively short. The stunning and rich Andean ecosystem is the most important route for endemic bird watching in the region. This district is located 1.040 meters away and is the gateway to a valley sparsely populated, little known and spectacular: the river valley Santa Eulalia. Here we will see: Blue and Yellow Tanager, Black-necked Woodpecker and Pied-crested Tit-Tyrant, Golden-bellied Grosbeak, Mountain parakeet.
In the Autisha bridge we can see the Andean Condor and endemic birds like Rusty-bellied Brush-finch, the Great Inca-Finch and very rare Rufous-breasted Warbling- finch, Bare-faced Ground-Dove, Rufous-chested Tanager, Black-necked Woodpecker. Parallel to the Santa Eulalia river we will see the Torrent Duck, White-capped Dipper, the Black Metaltail, Giant Hummingbird, the Rusty-crowned Tit-Spinetail and the Andean Tit-Spinetail. After finishing the tour, we will have to travel to Pisco, Paracas to continue the adventure.
DAY 3: BALLESTAS ISLAND – PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE
This tour starts at 8:00 am. We will enjoy the nature in the Ballestas Island on a speed boat. On this trip we will see: Humbolt Penguins, Inca Terns, one-million Guanay Cormorants, Red Legged Cormorants, Blue Footed Booby, Peruvian Boobies, Petrels, and Sea Lions.
After the tour in the speed boat, we will visit the Paracas National Reserve by car. In this place we can see one of the driest desert in the world, the Atacama Desert, where some interesting things can be found: Andean Flamingo, Burrowing Owl, Snowy Plover, Some migratory Shortbirds, and beaches with different colors (Playa Roja, Playa Yumaque, Supae).
DAY 4: PISCO MARSH
This tour starts at 6:00 am.
The Pisco marshes are crowded with herons and waders, and the surrounding grassy fields hold specialty birds such as the Peruvian Thick-knee, Striated Heron, Striated – Backed Bittern, Least Bittern, Little Blue Heron, Many – Colored Rush – Tyrant, Yellowish Pipit, and the Cinereous Conebill.
After we finish our tour, we will travel to Ica. On our way we will be searching for the Black – Necked Woodpecker, the Collared Wabling – Finch and the Oasis Hummingbird.
*Some adventure sports like dune buggies and sandboarding are also available for those who are intersted.*
We will sleep in Oasis Huacachina, Ica.
DAY 5: ICA – NAZCA
On our way to Nazca we will stop in Rio Grande to see: the Slender – Billed Finch, Band – Tailed Seedeater, Drab Seedeater, Parrot – Billed Seedeater, Chestnut – Throated Seedeater, Peruvian Sheartail, Purple – Collared Woodstar, Amazilia Hummingbird, Oasis Hummingbird, Green Kingfisher, Peruvian Pygmy – Owl, Band Winged Nightjar, Lesser Nighthawk. We will also see some of the Nazca´s Lines Figures. Then we will visit the ACUEDUCTS, ancient water canals.
*If you want, you can fly the Nazca Lines.*
We are going to sleep in Nazca and the next day we will return to Lima to finish out our itinerary.
